Adding Animals
How to add new animals to your organization using the form or AI-powered text parsing
Accessing the Form
- Navigate to your organization dashboard
- Click Animals in the sidebar
- Click the Add New Animal button
- Or go directly to
/app/[your-org]/new-animal
AI-Powered Text Parsing
Save time by pasting intake emails or notes into the Parse Plain Text field. The AI will automatically extract:
- Name, species, breed
- Age and gender
- Weight and location
- Medical needs
- Personality and behavior notes
- Compatibility information
Click Parse Plain Text and review the extracted data before submitting.
Tip: The AI works best with structured information. Include clear labels like "Name: Buddy" or "Age: 2 years" for best results.

- Breed - Use the autocomplete to search breeds (updates based on species)

Medical Information
- Medical Needs - Ongoing conditions, medications, special care
- Microchip Number - 15-digit microchip ID if known
Behavioral Information
- Personality - Temperament and character traits
- Behavior - Training status, specific behaviors
- Special Needs - Additional care requirements
Compatibility
- Good with Dogs - Yes, No, or Unknown
- Good with Cats - Yes, No, or Unknown
- Good with Kids - Yes, No, or Unknown
- Bite History - Check if the animal has a history of biting
Creating a Foster Request
Check Needs Foster Home at the bottom of the form to automatically:
- Create the animal record
- Create a linked foster request
- List the animal in Foster Opportunities
The foster request will be visible to volunteers looking for animals to foster.
After Submission
When you click Create Animal, the system will:
- Validate all required fields
- Create the animal record
- Create a foster request (if selected)
- Show a confirmation with the new animal's details
- Provide a link to view the full animal profile
Usage Limits
Free plan organizations have a limit on the number of animal profiles. If you've reached your limit, you'll see an upgrade prompt. Contact your organization admin to upgrade your plan.
Tips for Complete Profiles
- Be thorough - More information helps with foster matching and adoption
- Update regularly - Keep medical and behavioral info current
- Use clear descriptions - Help potential adopters understand the animal
- Add photos - Upload photos from the animal's detail page after creation
